LIFESTYLE: Life Lately...

I am in so much pain as I type this... because of PiYo. It's a good pain though I promise.

I really wanted to add a yoga class to my new fitness scheme. I've been to many yoga and pilates classes, but the majority of them start when I finish work so I never have time to go. I started doing yoga at home using DVDs but I felt as though I wasn't being pushed enough. So I looked at my local gym bookings and went to an early morning PiYo class.

Chalene Johnson - the creator of PiYo - wanted to create a workout that stretched her muscles as well as improve her shape and dress size. She mixed what she saw at a Vegas acrobatic shows with yoga and pilates to create a workout that can burn up to 1000 calories in one session.

The best way I can describe PiYo is 'yoga without the holding boring poses forever'. I really do love yoga and pilates and I feel as though it does make me stronger, but being stuck in downward dog pose for 30 seconds (or breaths) really puts pressure on my arms and thighs. I used to feel really embarrassed in class when I couldn't do a simple pose because my legs haven't been strong enough.

During PiYo, I wasn't in downward dog for more than 15 seconds. It went from downward dog to a plank, then 'piyo crunches', back to a plank, then 'piyo push ups' back to downward dog then a squat. We did this about 8 times. I'm out of breath and sweating with memories. Another great thing about PiYo, is that it has a soundtrack! Yoga classes normally have slow whale or wind sounds which makes me giggle inappropriately but this class had my favourite song of the moment 'Cake by the Ocean' by Dnce.

I'll admint there were parts of the workout that I found difficult. I'm still wondering how my teacher put her leg in some odd and difficult position. I would definitely recommend this workout for someone who wants to do yoga and work up a sweat at the same time.

I've been asked about the food I eat to keep healthy, so next week I will do a post all about that as well as all of my measurements so you guys can know what I'm up to

FITNESS: Spin Class

Okay, you've decided to book a spinning class. You feel like you live in LA and you're the queen of fitness. But what is spinning? And how scary is it?

Spinning is basically cycling on a stationary bike, sounds simple but its so much more than that. It involves cycling at different paces, standing up whilst cycling and crouching whist cycling. A normal class lasts around 45 minutes. It's a cardiovascular workout in a dark room with disco lights.

Here are my top tips for surviving a spin class:

1. Tell the instructor you're a Spin Virgin
I know it can be embarrassing, but when you tell them they can fix your bike so it's comfortable for you (ouchie spin bum is a real thing!). They will change the height of the seat, move the handlebars and show you how to use the resistance.

2. Listen to your instructor
That person shouting at the front? Yep, listen to them...even if you've been several times. The instructions will really help you get the best workout

3. Go at your own pace
The best thing about spinning is that you can go at your own pace. With my thighs I get tired so quickly so I'm quite frequently sitting down cycling gently to keep my heart rate up

4. Bring a towel
Things get sweaty. No seriously. I had a guy accidentally flick the sweat from his hair on to my arm but I won't mention any names *cough* JOEY *cough*
Joey under some disco lights

5. Bring a bottle of water
You work up such a sweat cycling you need to keep hydrated. Plus its a great reason to take a breather without feeling slightly embarrassed cause who's that mean that they judge someone for slowing down to sip some water?!

So that's my tips for spin class. I highly recommend you finding somewhere that does a class because it's so much fun. I've started spinning two times a week. I would bring a friend for your first time so you can struggle get used to it together.

Let me know below if you've done spinning or would like to in the future.

LIFESTYLE: Where Have I Been?

Where have I been? What have I been doing?
Simple answer? Working. Thinking. Dreaming. Buying more shoes.

I've mostly been too busy to do anything. Too drained to keep on going. Working long hours and having a terrible commute can make even the strongest person feel weak. Dealing with things at work that make you feel a bit crappy and stupid makes it even more difficult to get out of bed in the morning.

It hasn't all been miserable.
The last couple of months I've just been working on being better, feeling better.

Ever since my friendship breakup [HERE], I've been trying to be more social. As I'm turning 25, I've realised what a blessing it is that I have a handful of friends that I can really rely on and love. Whether its my best friend from school and her sister, my blonde and redhead friend (plus me we totally make Charlies Angels 2k16), or even being practically BFFs with your manager from work (weird, very weird but awesome). I try to stay as busy as possible all while having fun.

I've changed up my health regime too. I've recently become dairy free, both for personal and medical reasons and I feel so much better for it. I've actually lost 7 lbs since I started...but that might be because I'm no longer allowed to eat cake!

Going back to friends, I'm slowly finding out that not all friends are there to help and support you. I'm a firm believer in supporting all my friends no matter how small their achievements are. But I've noticed many people will give a backhanded compliment rather than being genuinely happy. It's an odd situation. I'm not sure if its jealousy as I have nothing anyone should be jealous about. Or if its insecurities- which has nothing to do with me. Either way, I'm finding it difficult to be happy and proud about things I've achieved, things I'm doing or even places I'm going.

So that's it. I'm not done with blogging. I'm simply trying to be in a place where I can give you the best blog posts
